On October 3rd

If you get none of these references…it’s okay. I won’t bash you for it. It’s just a movie. But if you do get it, how annoyed are you (on a level of 1 to 10) that October 3rd is on a Thursday this year? Sigh.

Mean Girls. This movie has to be the most iconic movies in my book, mostly because I expected high school to be exactly like this. Which in essence it was. I just didn’t lose myself on the way. Okay maybe a little – but it was the age okay.

But can you imagine having the problems Cady and her friends had, as an Indian kid in high school? My mom would straight up hit me with a sauce pan. I still remember the day my mock exam results came out and I scored a 60 or something in Math and my mom was yelling at me in the car when she picked me up.

But Cady just got grounded. Or half grounded considering her dad didn’t even know what grounded meant. In an Indian household, grounded can mean two things – 1, being brought back to your humble state by being hit with what touches the ground – chappals; and 2, making chutney.

In all seriousness, the movie had some legit points. As teenagers, it’s so easy for us to lose ourselves or be influenced to behave in a certain way. We’re still forming judgment, opinions, learning about the world. And we’re moody. Then some genius decided to add Math and Physics to that equation.

But then again, we’re constantly evolving. I’m 26 and still moody. And some genius decided to add taxes to this equation…so I kinda wish I was back in the car where my mom was yelling at me. Seems like a better situation over taxes and other adult things.

Anyone got a time machine to October 3rd, 2008? Thanks!
