The Stupidest Thing I’ve Done

We’ve all made stupid decisions in life. Mine is particularly stupid to me because I decided to do this just as I was getting into the deep end of my MA course. I decided to give up coffee for one year. Yep. I know. Stupidest. Thing. Ever.

Having been brought up in a South Indian household with African coffee, you can imagine the kind of happiness (and energy) our house had. We’d wake up, mom would put the filter on with the hot water and the aroma of coffee would make its way throughout the house. Like…a wake up call.

And as a wake up call for us, today is International Coffee Day! Can we take a moment to think about when the best moments are to drink a nice cup of coffee? Or how coffee makes you feel. And if you’re not a coffee drinker, that’s fine! You have your own kryptonite. But buy your coffee lover pal a cup of coffee and make their day. Don’t know where to go? Here’s a list of some of my favourite Toronto coffee shops:

Tim Hortons – Now I’m not just saying this because I live in Toronto. I’m saying it because Shawn Mendes is. Jokes aside, their coffee is liked and disliked across, but I’ll always be a loyal customer to their Ice Capp (and delish Tim Bits!)

Merchants of Green Coffee – If you are ever on the East side of Toronto, you have to give this beautiful coffee shop a visit. Not only is their coffee freshly ground and the perfect cup for a groggy morning, but they have a variety of coffee from around the world for you to choose from. And, you can take home your own bag if you’re willing to brew some cups at home.

A-OK Coffee – This is a hidden gem at Bloor & Yonge. A small, but super cool coffee shop which is a part of Aritzia. With limited seating, but unlimited aroma, this place is a must-visit if you want to grab a quick cup of coffee over a break or while shopping around.

Dark Horse – If you’re looking for the perfect Flat White, your search ends with Dark Horse. They brand themselves as an espresso bar and rightly so. Their coffee is always rich with flavour and a perfect blend. And as a bonus, try their chocolate and beets muffin. It’s ah-mazing!

Storm Crow Manor – Technically not a coffee shop, but needs to be on this list for one reason only – Irish Coffee. Adding Baileys and Whipped Cream to your coffee can bring a whole new level of joy, And if you’re looking to have that experience, head on over to Storm Crow Manor. They even let you keep the cool mug for a small price! How awesome is that?!

If nothing else, go ahead and try Starbucks‘ famous Pumpkin Spiced Latte. Personally, not a fan. But I’ll encourage it because it’s fall y’all! Go grab yourself some warm drinks, long coats, and trendy boots!

And if you’re someone who enjoys making their own coffee (like me), go ahead and do so! Drop me a mail, a DM or a comment below of how you enjoy your coffee. Happy International Coffee Day, friends!
